Dear Family of God,

I want to share with you again a homily entitled TRUTH PRECEDES LOVE by Msgr. Charles Pope, given in 2020: “One of the problems with modern Western culture is the tendency to prioritize feelings and emotions over truth and reason. This has infected the Church as well; not offending often takes precedence over the unambiguous teaching of doctrine and the truth of the faith.”

Dear Family of God,

How do we know that we have encountered the immense love of God through the Holy Spirt?

The Holy Spirit is poured forth into our hearts to help us live as Children of God and be free from sin. How do we know that we have experienced this kind of love? There is peace and joy that we cannot explain; it changes us; to become a person that God wants us to be.

Dear People of God,

What does it mean for our Lord to Ascend into heaven? What does it mean for us as disciples of Jesus?

The Ascension is not about Jesus leaving us, but of going ahead of us, as our forerunner, our High Priest, and our King, to prepare for us at the right hand of the Father. Far from being an absence, the Ascension is a gift of profound hope, purpose, and power.

This coming May 24th is the Pentecost Sunday, and we will be starting our Novena on the 15th. So, I want to share with you the prayer for the Seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit which we will be praying throughout these nine days:

What is Priesthood and how do you share the Priesthood of Jesus Christ?

Saint Peter teaches us from the Second Reading this weekend, that you, the laity, are “a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people of His own…” You share this priesthood through Baptism and anointing of the Holy Spirit in the Sacrament of Confirmation.

Who is our good shepherd? How do we become like Him?

Whether we like it or not, we are called to be a shepherd for those persons under our care and even for our neighbors. We are all under the care of God, our merciful Father who loves us sinners so immensely that He gave us His Only Son as our Redeemer and Shepherd.

Why did Pope Francis Proclaim the Third Sunday of Ordinary Time as the Word of God Sunday? “He opened their minds to understand the Scriptures” (Luke 24:45).

Pope Francis has written an Apostolic Letter on September 30, 2019, with this title, so he can encouraged us to read, study, reflect and practice what we learn from the Bible which is the Word of God.

Why do we celebrate The Feast for the Divine Mercy and what are the promises of Jesus when we heed his call?

We celebrate this Feast because Jesus told Saint Faustina 14x during her vision in the 1930’s to make a Feast on the Sunday after Easter as Divine Mercy Sunday, He said, “My daughter, tell the whole world about my inconceivable mercy.

What does it mean to us that Christ is risen? The Catechism of the Catholic Church teaches us that “Christ’s Resurrection is the fulfillment of the promises both of the Old Testament and of Jesus himself during his earthly life. (CCC 652). “The truth of Jesus’ divinity is confirmed by his resurrection.” (CCC653).

Why did Jesus cried out, “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?” What is the meaning of the whole Psalm 22? What message is Jesus trying to tell all of us?

Truly our Lord extremely suffered like no other, for He is innocent and his love is perfect. The perfect your love is, the greater suffering you felt for the one you love.

Why should we wait for the Final Blessings?

The Mass is not over after a Catholic receives Holy Communion. There are actually two critical points in the Mass when the priest speaks and acts “in the Person of Christ.” The first is when he consecrates the Bread and Wine, and the second is when he gives the final blessing.

How do we truly see as God sees?

We need God in order to quench our thirst and to see what truly can satisfy our needs. We are called to see as God sees. God reminded Samuel in our first reading that “man sees the appearance, but the Lord looks into the heart.”

Why is Marriage so important for God, for our Church and for our Society?

Pope St. John Paul II once said, “as the family goes, so goes the society.” Strong, healthy families form the backbone of a moral and just society. We need strong families for our Church, and we all need the Holy Spirit to guide and help us along this way.

How do we listen to Jesus?

Jesus told his Apostles, “He who listens to you, listens to me” (Luke 10:16). St. Peter with all his human frailty was blessed with a unique gift: the responsibility of leading the disciples and keeping them from error. The Holy Spirit transformed St. Peter powerfully at Pentecost, and his teaching authority (the Magisterium) was born along with the Church that day.
