Pentecost Sunday
by Fr. Jess Ty | 05/24/2026 | Weekly ReflectionDear Family of God,
How do we know that we have encountered the immense love of God through the Holy Spirt?
The Holy Spirit is poured forth into our hearts to help us live as Children of God and be free from sin. How do we know that we have experienced this kind of love? There is peace and joy that we cannot explain; it changes us; to become a person that God wants us to be.
We are free from any fear, there is a new freedom that we have never experienced before; the freedom of realizing and living as a beloved child of God. We are eager and willing to share this good news with others without fear of being ridiculed or persecuted.
The Apostles in our Gospel experienced this kind of love from Jesus when He said, “Peace be with you”. They experienced this overflowing love of God and were empowered by Jesus to share this same love with others, telling them, “As the Father has sent me so I send you and He breathed on them and said to them, “Receive the Holy Spirit. Whose sins you forgive are forgiven them, and whose sins you retain are retained.” As if Jesus is telling them, “Even if you have deserted me, I still love you and I still trust in you all; what you have experienced with me, go and help others to experience too.”
Through our Baptism and Confirmation, we are all given a drink of the Holy Spirit, or the Holy Spirit had been poured out into our hearts through the laying on of hands of the Successors of the Apostles, that is, the Catholic Bishops and the priests they appoints.
May the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Mother of the Church intercede for us all as she did with the Apostles.
Yours in Christ through Mary Immaculate.
