If you are like me, you occasionally struggle with feeling tired, overburdened, or unhappy. It is okay. You haven’t failed as a Catholic. It is part of the messy human experience. This is just part of the reason God becoming fully human while remaining fully God is not only mind-boggling but such an incredible sacrifice - even before reaching the ultimate sacrifice of His’ death on a cross.


I am troubled now. Yet what should I say?

I was still a Coordinator of Youth Ministry when my father died. So many families and youth group kids reached out with love and compassion. They also reached out with words. Too many words. One particularly well-meaning junior high kid gave me a card that read, “I know exactly how you feel. I was so sad when my dog died last year.” I’m happy to report the comparison of my father’s life to that of a dog did not result in violence. It was rooted in good intentions.

I love sweets. Delicious creamers, sweet barbecue sauce, and a warm chocolate chip cookie, these are a few of my favorite things. Yet, overloading oneself with sugars can have horrible long-term effects on the human body. I know this because I am the only member of my immediate family without diabetes. Effects can include loss of eyesight, kidney failure, diabetic neuropathy, foot amputation, heart attack, stroke...the list really does go on and on…
