I am troubled now. Yet what should I say?

I was still a Coordinator of Youth Ministry when my father died. So many families and youth group kids reached out with love and compassion. They also reached out with words. Too many words. One particularly well-meaning junior high kid gave me a card that read, “I know exactly how you feel. I was so sad when my dog died last year.” I’m happy to report the comparison of my father’s life to that of a dog did not result in violence. It was rooted in good intentions.

Effects can include loss of eyesight, kidney failure, diabetic neuropathy, foot amputation, heart attack, stroke...the list really does go on and on…
