2nd Sunday of Lent

by Fr. Jess Ty  |  03/01/2026  |  Weekly Reflection

Dear Family of God,

How do we listen to Jesus?

Jesus told his Apostles, “He who listens to you, listens to me” (Luke 10:16). St. Peter with all his human frailty was blessed with a unique gift: the responsibility of leading the disciples and keeping them from error. The Holy Spirit transformed St. Peter powerfully at Pentecost, and his teaching authority (the Magisterium) was born along with the Church that day.

According to Dr. Scott Hahn, “properly understood, the concept of infallibility is, in a sense, a necessary outgrowth of believing that Jesus founded a Church and that he fulfills His promise of guiding her teaching. The Holy Spirit is the Spirit of Truth, and when it comes to basic matters in faith, He keeps our Church unerring— or, in a word, infallible.”

Our Catechism teaches that the infallibility of the Magisterium of the Pastors extends to all the elements of doctrine, including moral doctrine, without which the saving truths of the faith cannot be preserved, expounded and observed. (CCC 2051)

May we all strive to listen to Jesus by listening to the successors of the apostles, Mary, Queen of Apostles, pray for us.

Yours through Mary Immaculate.
