What would your tomorrow look like?

I’ve previously posed the question: if tomorrow only contained what you thanked God for today, what would it look like?

It is a thought experiment worth revisiting.

The youngest among us tend to thank God for toys, parents, and cartoons.

The most grateful among us tend to thank God for our loved ones, our jobs, and our meals.

The holiest among us tend to thank God for the Church, daily struggles, and faith.

How many of us remember to thank the Lord for another morning?

We have a 9-12 ounce muscle pumping every second of every day. If it stops, so do we. Life is that fragile. We have a three pound organ held within our skulls. If it shuts down, so do we. We have 9-12 pints of blood flowing through our fragile bodies. If we lose 2/3 of it, we are lose this life.

“So too, you also must be prepared, for at an hour you do not expect, the Son of Man will come.”

So many of us read this Sunday’s gospel with laser focus on Jesus’ second coming. Yet, every day we wake up is major miracle. Our lives continue on a razor wire and most of us just take them for granted.

I also realize some of the people reading this carry a profound sadness and might not remember their last truly happy day.

To you, I say you are here for a reason. You are here because someone you have met or will meet needs you. You are here because the Lord needs you to accomplish something. There is more for you to do. I also beg you to get help. Find someone you can talk to. There is no shame in seeking out a good counselor. Set an appointment with one of our amazing priests. And spend tie in our Blessed Sacrament chapel.

We don’t know the hour, but we know it hasn’t come yet. Thank the Lord.
