Good Morning Lord

Sometimes, I wake up and struggle to say my favorite morning prayer, “Good morning Lord. What do you have for me to do today?”

I think happens when I forget a few basic truths: God knows what will happen in advance. If he knows what will happen in advance, he knows what will happen to me. If he knows what will happen to me, he must have a plan for me. And if he has a plan for me, he knows what I will need to accomplish it.

Can I take a moment here to ask the world a question: Why on God’s green earth do I allow so much anxiety into my heart?! It makes no sense when you go through those truths. None!

Except I’m a human being in a fallen world. So, I need to be reminded. Matthew recorded a fantastic reminder in his fourteenth chapter: Jesus sent two of his disciples and said to them, “Go into the city and a man will meet you, carrying a jar of water. Follow him. Wherever he enters, say to the master of the house, ‘The Teacher says, “Where is my guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”’ Then he will show you a large upper room furnished and ready. Make the preparations for us there.” The disciples then went off, entered the city, and found it just as he had told them.

Jesus knows us. Jesus knows what awaits us. Jesus knows what we will need. (Repeat this.)

It is the strangest thing...for many of us today, it is easier for us to believe that Jesus conquered death than it is for us to believe he also conquered anxiety. But he understands we are humans in a fallen world who need him. And he is a loving and patient God.
