We Are Not Imposters

In just two days, my debut novel will begin shipping. And I need to thank all of you who have reached out to inquire about the title, plot, genre, and where to get a copy. It has meant the world to me. In fact, it is the fulfillment of a dream I’ve had since I was a child.

I already have my personal copy. (You get an advance copy shipped to you so you can make sure there are no major errors in the print.) And something funny happened when I opened that box and removed a novel with my name on it. It still didn’t feel real.

I’d always assumed it wouldn’t feel real until I held the book in my own hands. Nope. Still felt like I’d had a friend make a fancy cover with my name on it and glue it to the outside of someone else’s book.

I shouldn’t be surprised. I feel the same way when I see the “Director of Faith Formation” name plate outside my office door every morning. Or when my absolutely gorgeous, intelligent, and loving wife lets me be the one to kiss her. Or when my adorable toddler says those magical words, “I love you, daddy.”

I mean... I’m not worthy of any of this. But God seems to disagree and here we are.

I cannot help but imagine this is precisely what the earliest followers of Jesus Christ must’ve felt.

Matthew recorded the following: The eleven disciples went to Galilee.... When they all saw him, they worshipped, but they doubted. Then, Jesus...said to them, “All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore...and make disciples of all nations.”

We are not imposters. God has placed us in our lives to make a difference on his behalf. Let’s not waste another day doubting it.
