Living as Easter People

Congratulations are in order! Easter Morning has come and gone—which marks the end of thirteen months of Lent!

All kidding aside, we are an Easter people and it’s high time we start living like it!

Jesus defeated death.

If we REALLY believe that, there is nothing to be afraid of with the one exception being falling short of heaven. As Scripture says, “Death, where is your sting?” There is no persecution that can deny us entry into heaven. There is no burden that will not be lifted upon entry into heaven. No chronic pain or psychological illness that can rob us of heaven. There is nothing except our own free will.

It is time for us to throw off the oppressive blankets of perfectionism, doubt, worry, pride, fear, and—yes—sin.

It is time to bathe our lives in the grace found in the sacraments.

Let us claim our place in the family of God given to us in Baptism. Let us to to good use the Holy Spirit stirred up in the sacrament of Confirmation. Let us proceed into each day confident in our roles as walking, talking tabernacles of Christ Jesus found in the Eucharist. Let us quickly regain our footing after each stumble, gaining surer footing with each recovery and pardon through the sacrament of Reconciliation. Let our marriages live up to the promises we made to one another and to God in the sacrament of Matrimony. Let our preaching, healing, and ministries reflect the awesome power of Holy Orders. And let us, in our times of most dire need, find solace and healing in the Anointing of the Sick. We are an Easter people and it’s time the world sees precisely that in us!
