December 6

We find ourselves already in the second week of Advent and we are in the midst of an epidemic.

I can hear you saying, “No David! Covid 19 has been declared a pandemic!” I’m not talking about Covid 19. That has gotten plenty of press.

I’m talking about anger. And I’m not talking about righteous anger. I’m talking about the attitudes that seem to be most prevalent in our current culture.

“I can’t believe that everyone doesn’t see the world as I do!”

“People who disagree with me are so ignorant!”

“Everyone is out to destroy everything I love!”

“I have discovered the ability to discern perfectly, so I don’t understand why people don’t take the same actions I have chosen for me and my family!”

It seems we have entered a funnel where everyone keeps becoming more upset by the week and the volume, to steal from the great prophets “Spinal Tap,” gets turned up to eleven.

So we KNOW what we must do as we continue through this season of preparation. We must be lights in the darkness, much like that shining star leading wise people toward Jesus.

Lord, help us to see the world as others do.

Help us engage in fruitful conversations with others.

Work through us to heal everything we touch for your glory.

And give us profound humility that will open our hearts to hearing your voice in the most unlikely of places.
